Issue:

I've updated my software, but when I check the About dialog, it continues to show the old version or the wrong version.  What should I do?

Quick Solution

In most cases, the quick solution is to simply reboot your computer before running the upgrade installation.  The reason that upgrades fail sometimes is that libraries are not fully offloaded from memory and the upgrade process cannot replace them.  Thus, rebooting the machine before the upgrade, guarantees that the upgrade will be able to update all files. 

However, in some cases, you have to go through the more difficult upgrade solution described next.

Solution:

Save Tutum License File

Please make sure you save the tutum license file before doing a clean install! Instructions are given next.

In order to avoid installation issues, you will need to do a clean uninstall first.  Please follow these steps:

1. Reboot your machine to make sure all the library files are offloaded from your memory.  This guarantees that all files can be successfully removed, that they are not locked by an existing memory process.

2. Back up your Tutum license file.  You will need this file when upgrading the software.  The file name is "tutum" and it should be in the following directories:

Shutter Stream

C:\Users\<<"Your-user-name">>\AppData\Local\IconaSys\ShutterStream

When backing up the tutum file, please make sure you do not add any extensions or change the name of the file in any way.

Note: On Mac, the Library file may be hidden.  In that case, open Finder and then click on Go / Go to Folder ... and enter: ~/Library

Then navigate to the appropriate location:

3.Uninstall the old version and also delete its installation directory off of your hard disk location (if it's not automatically deleted by the uninstall process):

Delete the app from the apps list and remove it from the Recycle Bin also.

4. Reboot again and check that you DO NOT have the old version installed.

5. Install the new version and then check the About button again. It should give you the new version number now.

6. Copy the license file back to its original location.
